Musée de L'Orangerie and the Tuileries in Paris
63Another great museum in Paris is Musée De L'Orangerie. This is one of the smaller museums in Paris, and a really good choice if you have children, because of its size.
The most famous artworks exhibited in this museum is Monet's Les Nymphéas. The museum also exhibits the Walter-Guillaume Collection, which contains works of art from such famous and great artists as Renoir, Picasso, Modigliani, and other great artist from the period between 1870 and 1930.
Perfectly placed in the beautiful Jardin des Tuileries, one of the most beautiful parks in Paris, this museum is a good alternative to Musée d'Orsay, if you don't have much time, are bringing children, or simply don't like big museums.
Opening hours: the museum is open every day, except Tuesdays and December 25th, from 9 - 18.
Acces/ The easiest way to the museum is:
By metro: line 1, 8, or 12 to Concord
By bus: line 24,42, 52, 72, 73, 84, 94. All have stops at Concord
Address: Jardin des Tuileries, 75001 Paris
Jardin des Tuileries
This is the oldest of the public parks in Paris, visited by millions of people every year. Located between Le Louvre, the most famous of the Parisian museums, and also the largest art museum in the world, and Place de la Concord, this beautiful park is a must for anyone visiting Paris. It was originally laid out by the landscape architect Andre Le Notre in 1664, ordered by Catherine de Medicis, and was the garden of the then being Palais des Tuileries, which was destroyed, burned to the ground, in 1871, during the upheaval in connection with the suppression of La Commune de Paris. It became a public park after the French Revolution.
La Crêpe: Everywhere in Paris you can buy crêpe, that big pancake filled with sugar, nutella (not the original recipe!, but very popular), and lots of other fillings. My favorite filling is chestnut, it may not sound too good, but it is, and very French.
From June 1st (approximately) and all through the summer there is a small amusement park in the Tuileries. It's nice and open at night. Don't forget to eat! try the Churros, they are lovely fattening, sugary and greasy!
